Col. John Webster Bowman, U.S.M.C. (ret.), and Mrs. Bowman of this city, announce the engagement of their daughter, Ellen Hempstone to Dennis Paul Perman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin E. Perman of Lodi, N.J.

Miss Bowman attended Holton-Arms School and was graduated from Miss Porter's School, Farmington, Conn., and from Randolph-Macon Woman's College. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Smith Hempstone of Washington and is the great-granddaughter of the late Theodore W. Noyes, editor of the Washington Star for some fifty years. She is employed by Woodward and Lothrop as an assistant buyer.

Mr. Perman is a graduate of Seton Hall University with a degree in marketing and is employed by Woodward and Lothrop as a Divisional Supervisor. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1970 in Texas, North Dakota and South Korea.

An August wedding is planned.
