The Sikeston Herald, Sikeston, Missouri, September 4, 1941

Twenty-five years ago Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Limbaugh observed their Silver Wedding and anniversary by entertaining more than four hundred friends and neighbors with a supper at their farm home south of Sikeston where they then resided for eleven years. The vows were renewed then with Rev. S. P. Brite, a former pastor of the Sikeston Baptist church officiating.

On Saturday, September 6, 1941, Mr. and Mrs. Limbaugh will again renew their vows as they quietly observe their Golden Wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren at their home on South Scott street.

In telling a Herald reporter of her wedding of fifty years ago, Mrs. Limbaugh, the former Miss Mary Hovis of Madison county, described her wedding dress, which was of gray poplin timmed (sic) in gray velvet and made in basque style. "That skirt had fifteen yards of material in it," she said, and added "what a contrast to the modern bride's dress." With the quaint bodice and voluptuous skirt the bride of fifty years ago wore a small gray turban, trimmed with white roses, and white gloves which, "through all the long years I have managed to keep. I don't know why, but I just have," she added.

After the wedding ceremony Mr. Limbaugh and his bride attended a meeting of the Baptist Association then being held at Marquand. "We had a good old horse and buggy to make the trip to Marquand from my parents' home; at least, we thought it was a good buggy until it broke," said Mrs. Limbaugh. "But anyway we made the trip without the buggy and finally reached Marquand and had a very happy day.

The romance of Mr. Limbaugh and his bride began when the former taught in the rural schools of Madison county. Mrs. Limbaugh having been one of his pupils. The marriage was performed by Rev. Milem Davis, a Baptist minister, for whom one of their sons, Milem Limbaugh, was named. Following the ceremony, held at the home of Mrs. Limbaugh's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Hovis, a dinner was served. Among those living today who attended the wedding are H. P. Hovis of St. Louis, brother of Mrs. Limbaugh, who was then 11 months old, and Avery Mouser of Marquand, a brother of E. F. Mouser of Sikeston.

Mr. and Mrs. Limbaugh are the parents of four sons, Ernest Limbaugh, Dr. C. W. Limbaugh and Milem Limbaugh, all of Sikeston. The other, Jim, died seven years ago. They also have four grandchildren, Miss Betty Ruth and Mike Limbaugh, children of Dr. and Mrs. C. W. Limbaugh, and Danny and James Limbaugh, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Limbaugh of Sikeston.

Shortly after their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Limbaugh moved to Sikeston and have since resided on South Scott street. They are a fine couple with many friends, not only in Sikeston but also among the farm folk of this district.
