Betrothal Recalls Early Days

Early California days are recalled with the announcement of the betrothal of Senorita Gabriela Isabel Quiroz, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel Carlos Quiroz of San Gabriel, and Thomas Workman Temple III son of Walter P. Temple, founder of Temple City.

The wedding, uniting members of prominent old California families, will take place in San Gabriel Mission Saturday morning at 9 o'clock, the first Temple to be married there since the bridegroom-elect's great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Workman were wed in the historic church in 1866. The bride-elect's sister, Senorita Catherine Quiroz, will be maid of honor and Mr. Temple's brother, Walter P. Temple Jr., will serve as best man.

The bride-elect is a granddaughter of Dona Gabriella Bojorquez y Gonzales de Quiroz, last "mayordoma" of the San Gabriel Mission. The family has been connected intimately with the mission for three generations. Mr. Quiroz is the present choirmaster. The bride-to-be attended Alhambra High School and was queen of "La Fiesta de San Gabriel" in 1935. She has been hostess for the annual pioneer reception during fiestas for the last three years and led the fiesta ball with her fianc? since 1934.

Mr. Temple was graduated from Santa Clara University and Harvard. He is a historian and genealogist of Spanish American families. He is the grandson of F. P. F. Temple, builder of Temple Block, who was a younger brother of Don Juan Temple, who came in 1826 and was one of Los Angeles' first merchants and built some of the first buildings of consequence.

Rev. Joseph Thompson, O. F. M., only native born Franciscan, will officiate at the ceremony which will be attended by representatives of families whose names are synonymous with colorful California. Father Thompson's mother was a De la Guerra and Sepulveda and his great-grandfather, Alpheus B. Thompson, 1825 pioneer, was a friend of Don Juan Temple.

A reception will follow in the San Gabriel Art Gallery.
