Sources and Notes: Sikeston Herald, Sikeston, Scott, Missouri, September 2, 1948 Apple Mountain Farms - Zion Evangelical church, Hamburg, Iowa, was the setting Saturday for the wedding of Miss Cathleen Carpenter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Carpenter, and Lee Austin Bowman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bowman of Sikeston, Missouri. Dr. J. A. Thompson, Tarkio, Mo., performed the double ring ceremony at four o?clock. Fifty-seven years ago Dr. Thompson officiated at the wedding of the bride?s maternal grandmother and grandfather. Traditional wedding music was played by Mrs. Harold Martin with Jay Dougan singing ?Because? and ?I Love You Truly? during the ceremony. Woodwardia, huckleberry and plumosus with seven-branch candelabra and baskets of white lilies and white and Picardy gladioli flanked the altar. Pews occupied by relatives were marked by bouquets of matching flowers and greenery. The bride?s gown of candle-light satin had a fitted bodice with a shoulder yoke of illusion finished by a deep satin fold, with a full skirt ending in an aisle-wide train. The bride wore her sister?s veil of illusion which was held in place by a wreath of pom pom asters and chrysanthemums. A colonial bouquet of white roses and chrysanthemums was carried by the bride. The bride?s attendants wore emerald green velvet dresses fashioned with drop shoulders, fitted bodice and bustle. The headdresses were matching pleated velvet. Bouquets of bronze and yellow chrysanthemums were carried by the bridesmaids. The matron of honor carried a bouquet of orchid mums and Picardy gladioli. Mrs. Lawrence Peck, St. Louis, sister of the bride, was the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Jane Shibley, Carrollton, Mo.; Miss Mary Cole, St. Joseph, Mo., and Miss Loleta Carpenter, sister of the bride, and Miss Marlene Martin, Hamburg, Iowa, cousin of the bride. Richard McDougal, Sikeston, was the best man. Lawrence Peck, St. Louis, brother-in-law of the bride; William Ball, Carrollton, Mo., Jean Klein and William Sikes, Sikeston, were the ushers. The bride?s mother wore coca colored satin with bronze accessories and a corsage of yellow and broze mums. Mrs. Bowman?s gown and accessories were of smoke gray with a shell pink corsage. A reception immediately following the wedding was held in the home of the bride?s parents. Assisting at the reception were Miss Carolyn Airy, Alhambra, Calif.; Mrs. Byron Hill, Hollywood, Calif.; Mrs. Cozette Harmes, Laramie, Wyo.; Mrs. Claire Martin, Mrs. David Sjulin, Hamburg; Mrs. Fred Knoirr, Lincoln, Nebr.; Mrs. John Brecht, Plattsmouth, Nebr.; Mrs. Paul Reese, Mrs. George Poage and Mrs. Don Dougan Sr., Hamburg. Also assisting were Miss Mary Ruth Knorr, Lincoln, Neb.; Miss Janet Sue Wilson, Kansas City, and Miss Shirley Nichols, Sidney, Iowa. The couple left for a short wedding trip following the reception. For traveling Mrs. Bowman wore a brown checked suit with brown accessories. The couple will reside at Sikeston.
