Teacher is bride of Sikeston business man

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ray Legan are at home to friends in the McMullin apartments following their return last night from a short wedding trip to Little Rock, Ark.

The couple was married by Rev. John L. Taylor, pastor of the Methodist church at his residence on North street on the evening of December 222. Miss Ruby Nell Legan, sister of the groom, and Frank Miller attended the bride and groom. Following their marriage, they went to the Palace Cafe, where Mr. Legan was giving a dinner party to a number of friends. As the dinner was being served the bride was called to the telephone by her mother, Mrs. Joe Bowman, and summoned home. Mr. Legan accompanied her.

After an absence of thirty minutes, Frank Miller, a guest at the dinner, read an announcement of their marriage earlier that evening and until then none of the guests knew what had taken place. The delay gave Mr. Legan and his bride ample time to leave Sikeston before their friends could recover from their surprise.

Mrs. Legan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bowman, was reared in Sikeston. Following gaduation (sic) from the high school she attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles and later the State College in Cape Girardeau, from which institution she received her degree last summer. During this school term she has been employed in the Bertrand public schools and expects to continue her work there until the close of the term. She is a talented young woman, and during her school years was an honor student in many of her classes. Attractive, and gifted with a friendly personality, Mrs. Legan enjoys the friendship of a wide circle of friends.
